Small pair of single-headed drums attached by a thick piece of wood, tuned high in pitch and played while held between the player's legs. Originally, the bongo's drum heads (skins) were tacked-on, but later a system of tuneable hardware was attached. Today's bongos are made of either fiberglass or wood.
