Mission

Origin of Tansen Sangeet Mahavidyalaya

Tansen Sangeet Mahavidyalaya (TSM) started in 1972 in Hapur, District Ghaziabad (UP). It was founded by Late Sri R. S. Verma (Sangeet Acharya). All his learning's in the field of Music was under the tutelage of his father Late Sri Hoti Lal Verma, who was a resident of Persoli, Mathura (UP) and lived during 1856 – 1948. He visited many places of India with his group named “Sangeet Mandli”.
Late Sri Hoti Lal Verma has also performed for various stage shows like the Nautanki, Raslila, dramas, etc., which are popular in that part of the country. He visited every corner of the villages and towns to spread music. He was a great Musician specialised in Shastriya Sangeet. His guru was Sri Pandit Raghunandan Prasad Chobe

Late Sri R. S. Verma was the son of Late Sri Hoti Lal Verma and was born in 1890 and lived upto 1991. During this period Sri R.S.Verma founded TSM. He was born in Vhora Kareka, Post Office Iglash, in District Aligarh (U.P.). Late Sri R. S. Verma was a musician by birth. He had the privilege of learning his music lessons under the guidance of his father. His devotion to music made a listener fell the purity of the rendition and the presence of God.
Late Sri R. S. Verma was a fine vocalist but was equally adept at playing instruments like the Harmonium and the Tabla. He too played his part in organising skits, dramas and similar stage shows along with his group the “Sangeet Mandli”.

To carry on the legacy, Sri M. L. Verma (born Jan. 1, 1937, Aligarh, U.P.), son of Late Sri R. S. Verma, took charge of Tansen Sangeet Mahavidyalaya as the Sangeet Acharya (specialising in Vocal music and Harmonium). He too was a child artist and had classical music in his veins since very early years. He got all his training and education on music from his cultured family – mostly from his father.
Even today he is closely associated with Tansen Sangeet Mahavidyalaya as the Chairperson of the institute and the students are privileged to learn under his guidance. While he has given his complete efforts to run this institute, he still provides guidance by giving directions for the progress of the institution. He is an active member in every activity/event of the institute. He shares his skills with the trainees.
Day-by-day, TSM, as an institution, is spreading very fast. Branches are operational in Uttaranchal, Haryana, Gwalior, Bihar, Aligarh, Kurukshetra, Hapur, Kotdwar, NOIDA and Agra, apart from Delhi.
In its journey, so far, TSM has added many faculties related to music and dance and has accepted new and modern technologies/techniques and styles in accordance with the passage of time. New instruments and newer ways of teaching them are being accepted and adopted. An example of such new styles is the Western Style Dance.

Carrying on the tradition of the older generation, TSM has organised various stage programmes on an

ongoing basis, after every 3-4 months (age group of 3 years and above), at the state and National levels in the name of “Sangeet Pratiyogita”. This started way back in 1975. Subsequently it was held in 1979, 1984, 1989 and 1995. Then it was renamed and in 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001 and 2002 it was held as “Sangeet Pratibha Samaroh”. In 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006 & 2007 it had another renaming. It was rechristened as simply “Sangeet Samaroh” and was held in Sec. 7, Dwarka, New Delhi.
The objective of these programmes is to encourage the students, build in a spirit of participation and remove the inhibitions of getting on stage. Therefore, this becomes a part of the complete training process. How to perform on stage, the stage etiquettes - the do’s and don’ts on stage are all a part of this training. Repeated stage appearances grooms a person enough to allow him to perform anywhere without having any fear whatsoever.
The programmes are covered by the local media – both print and visual. This helps in, not only promoting the organisation, but also propagating the good work being done - and of course, project the students’ talents. Sufficient coverage is also provided by the National dailies.
Objective of Tansen Sangeet Mahavidyalaya

All instruments and essential accessories required to impart training are provided by the Institute free of cost. However, the institute does not object to a learner from bringing in his own instrument, if he has one.
» To join the world into a bond of friendship through Music - Music is a great way to win someone's heart.
» Music is remarkable relaxant - It provides relief to the tired and tense. One cannot imagine the powers of music as a relaxant until one experiences it.
