A member of a family of wood –wind single reeded instruments invented by adolphe Sax in the 1840’s. Made with a metal body these instruments are a cross between the clarinet and the oboe, having a clarinet type mouth piece and a conical bore like the oboe. Originally, the family comprised 14 instruments. The common one used today are the Altro Saxophone, Tenore Saxophone, Sopranino Saxophone.
